Joby Aviation announced the acceptance of its first flight simulator developed in collaboration with CAE, marking a key step in operational readiness for the start of its commercial electric air taxi services in the United States.

The first of two next-generation simulators will be installed in January at Joby’s manufacturing and pilot training center in Marina, California. The second, a full-motion simulator, is slated for later in 2025. Together, both systems will allow for the training of up to 250 pilots per year, strengthening the company’s readiness for the commercial market.

The simulators are designed to meet the highest FAA ratings, including a Flight Training Device Level 7 and a Full Flight Simulator Level C, essential requirements for Part 135 eVTOL aircraft operations in the United States.

The platform integrates the CAE Prodigy Image Generator, with a 300 x 130 degree field of view, hyper-realistic 3D urban environments based on Unreal Engine, and advanced audio, vibration, and turbulence systems that replicate real-world urban flight conditions, including wind effects around ground structures.

Development of these simulators began in 2022 and is based on real aircraft data, allowing the creation of a digital twin of Joby’s eVTOL. This certifiable training infrastructure reinforces the company’s strategy to move toward safe, scalable, and regulatory-approved commercial operations.
