Joby Aviation has announced the expansion of its plant in Marina, California, doubling its aircraft production capacity to a total of 435,500 square feet. At the same time, the company is accelerating the implementation of its renovated facility in Dayton, Ohio, for the manufacturing and testing of components for its pilot production line.

The company, recognized for leading the development of electric air taxis, also added a new aircraft to its flight test program, highlighting its progress in scale and speed. This sixth aircraft achieved airworthiness certification just one week after its completion.

Joby’s growth strategy is based on key pillars: American innovation with domestic talent, vertical integration that ensures quality and rapid development, and a close collaboration with Toyota, which advises on design, manufacturing, and operational efficiency.

With the expansion in Marina, Joby expects to reach a production capacity of up to 24 aircraft per year. The facility will also play a central role in obtaining FAA production certification, ground and flight testing, pilot training, and aircraft maintenance. In parallel, the Dayton plant is poised to achieve production of up to 500 aircraft annually in the future.

Support from local leaders, community organizations, and state programs has been key. In 2023, Joby received a $9.8 million grant from the state of California and benefited from incentives that reduced equipment costs by $10 million.

Joby founder and CEO JoeBen Bevirt will speak at the Reindustrialize Summit in Detroit on July 16, 2025.
