Oxford-Cambridge eVTOL Demonstrator Project Takes Off, Pioneering UK Future Flight

London, UK – October 1, 2025 – Skyports Infrastructure, in collaboration with a 100% UK consortium comprising Bristow Helicopters, NATS, Vertical Aerospace, and Oxfordshire County Council, officially launched the “OxCam AAM Corridor” project, aimed at demonstrating the commercial and operational viability of electric air taxis between Oxford and Cambridge.

The six-month program, supported by the UKRI’s Future Flight: Regional Demonstrator 2, seeks to accelerate the transition from testing to regional commercial operations. The project includes operational planning, regulatory readiness, infrastructure integration, and community engagement strategies to lay the foundation for a robust AAM ecosystem in the UK.

One of the most notable milestones will be the first piloted passenger flight of an eVTOL from a vertiport in the UK, using Vertical Aerospace’s VX4 prototype.

The initiative follows the publication of the UK CAA’s eVTOL Delivery Model, which establishes a regulatory framework to enable commercial operations of electric aircraft in the country starting in 2028.

This project is emerging as a fundamental step toward sustainable regional connectivity, with the potential to boost productivity, attract private investment, and consolidate the UK as a global leader in zero-carbon aviation.
