Vertical Aerospace [NYSE: EVTL], a global aerospace technology company pioneering electric aviation, announced a long-term strategic alliance with Evolito, a specialist in high-performance electric propulsion systems, to supply the electric propulsion units (EPUs) that will power Valo, its commercial eVTOL aircraft.

As part of the agreement, Evolito will provide its proprietary EPU architecture, which integrates lightweight, efficient electric motors with DAL-A certified high-integrity power electronics, all in a single system. This configuration offers the extended range, high performance, and built-in redundancy required to meet safety standards equivalent to those of traditional commercial aviation, with certification expected by 2028.

Both companies will work together to certify the electric motors with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), with concurrent validation by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and subsequent recognition by global regulators. Evolito has received Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the CAA, a key requirement for certification and commercial operation in the UK.

In addition, Vertical Aerospace is developing a hybrid-electric variant of Valo, designed to offer greater range and operational flexibility in response to the needs of the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) market. This version will integrate Evolito’s EPUs and is scheduled to begin flight testing in mid-2026.

Evolito thus joins a network of strategic Valo suppliers that includes Honeywell, Syensqo, and Aciturri, strengthening the program’s path to commercialization.

The collaboration also supports the UK Government’s ambition to lead aerospace innovation, backed by £2.3 billion in funding over the next decade through the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI), whose support has been key to the development of the electric propulsion technologies and aircraft involved in this program.
