Volatus Aerospace has announced that it has received a Letter of Acceptance from Transport Canada under the country's new Pre-Validated Declaration process for its Canary Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS).
According to the company, the milestone makes Volatus Aerospace one of the first organizations in Canada to obtain approval through the new regulatory framework, supporting the deployment of autonomous drone operations under expanded Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) capabilities.
Volatus stated that the Canary RPAS is currently the only remotely piloted aircraft system that meets Transport Canada's safety requirements for Extended Visual Line of Sight (EVLOS) operations in populated areas using an onboard Detect-and-Avoid (DAA) capability, eliminating the need for external detect-and-avoid systems.
The company noted that the achievement reflects years of investment in aircraft engineering, manufacturing, autonomy software, command-and-control systems, operational procedures, safety architecture, pilot training and regulatory engagement.
Volatus Aerospace believes the integrated approach positions the company to support governments and commercial customers as BVLOS operations continue transitioning from demonstration projects to broader commercial deployment.
The company expects its autonomous aviation solutions to support applications across infrastructure inspection, defense, public safety, energy and industrial markets, where scalable BVLOS operations can improve efficiency, situational awareness and operational flexibility.
