Volatus Aerospace Receives National Approval for Long-Distance Nighttime Remote Drone Operations

Volatus Aerospace Inc. has received Transport Canada approval to operate long-range beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drones at night across Canada, in atypical airspace below 400 feet AGL and over low-density populations.
This permit will allow Volatus to perform critical nighttime missions, such as 24/7 border surveillance, facility security, search and rescue, thermal wildfire detection, and cargo delivery. Glen Lynch, CEO of Volatus Aerospace, emphasized that this approval represents a significant step forward in providing continuous operations to its customers, especially in areas that are difficult to access at night.
Nighttime operations present lower air and ground risks, facilitating missions that would otherwise be unfeasible during the day. It will also improve the efficiency of wildfire detection using thermal sensors and extend search and rescue efforts into nighttime hours. It will also benefit the delivery of critical supplies to hospitals and other customers.
This achievement is the first step in Volatus’ strategy to obtain multiple national certifications, with a focus on the inspection of infrastructure such as oil pipelines and power transmission lines, reinforcing its leadership in innovative aerial solutions.
