Joby Aviation has announced the initial phase of a strategic manufacturing alliance with Toyota Motor Corporation, establishing a joint venture aimed at accelerating the commercialization of electric air mobility.
The partnership combines Joby's pioneering work in electric aviation with Toyota's globally recognized expertise in manufacturing systems, operational excellence, and large-scale production.
Initially, the strategic alliance will focus on laying the foundation for commercial production of Joby's electric air taxi, emphasizing manufacturing productivity, quality, and cost optimization.
Toyota has been a long-standing supporter of Joby, dating back to Toyota Ventures' first investment in the company in 2017. The expanded collaboration marks a significant milestone as both companies seek to bring electric air mobility services to communities worldwide.
Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda stated that air mobility represents a natural extension of the company's long-standing mission of "mobility for all," expanding transportation solutions from ground to sky while creating new value for society.
The announcement further strengthens Joby's manufacturing capabilities as the company progresses toward aircraft certification and future commercial operations.
